K, it's the holidays. Let's get real. We are going to eat more. I found these "kooky" tips that could help you eat less from Chatelaine.com and thought I'd share. Merry Ho Ho! (Taken from Chatelaine.com) Eat on red plates Eating your meal on a bright coloured plate that contrasts against the colour of the food might help you eat 10 percent less, say researchers at the Cornell University Food & Brand Lab (via Rodale.com). The method to the madness: When the colour of the food “blends in” with the plate we think there’s less food there. Don’t use paper plates When some people eat on paper plates they think of it as ‘just snacking’ and then later pig out on a full meal. True that. Don't do it. Plus they're so flimsy. Use a big fork A study conducted by researchers in Utah found that people who ate their pasta with a bigger fork actually ate less than those who ate with a smaller fork. These big forkers showed greater control because they saw how much damage that big fork was doing when they looked down at their plates. Deface your meal There's no science behind this advice, just neurosis. But some advies making your food suddenly unappetizing by throwing a used napkin on it or sticking dirty cutlery in it or spoiling it with water or excessive salt—whatever you need to do to stop eating all of it. (I don't really like that tip. You should still enjoy your meal! But I do agree with throwing a napkin over your food when your finished, that way you won't pick at it.) Tighten your belt Make yourself uncomfortable before you eat so that you don’t enjoy eating enough to continue beyond a certain point. Or just wear pants that are too tight. (Again, not the biggest fan of this one.. eating should be a good experience, but hey, it may work for you!)
