Hey!! Turns out you can now donate umbilical cord blood and help out a stranger in need. The blood from umbilical cords is being used in stem cell research and is being used for bone marrow transplants to treat leukemia, sickle cell anemia and cancer. Some parents are storing it in a private bank in case the child or family member gets sick, but others are donating it to help out complete strangers. Since the umbilical cord is going to be thrown away it may as well be used for a great purpose!
