Local Woman Rides For Cancer (VIDEO)
A Prince George woman will be cycling across Canada in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride. Fifty six year old Peggy Tobin will start on September 9th in Vancouver. She will ride with forty one others riders and set out for the seven thousand kilometre ride. Tobin has been training for several months in hopes to raise money to help children that have been touched by cancer. The money raised will go toward child oncology centers across Canada.

Cancer Centre Hires First Doctor (VIDEO)
The Northern Cancer Centre isn't slated to open until the end of 2012, but its first physician has already been hired. Dr. Robert Olson, a radiation oncologist, will be part of the provincial Radiation Therapy Program which will bring service to the north for the first time when the centre is opened. He has also been appointed as an assistant professor with the Northern Medical Program through the Department of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. His academic responsibilities within the NMP will be teaching and research.

Another Drug Bust On Oak Street (VIDEO)
Prince George RCMP have executed a search warrant at an Oak Street house they say is associated to the gang "Game Tight Soldiers." Police say they encountered a heavily-barricaded front door when serving a warrant in the 2200 block of Oak Street late Wednesday afternoon, but managed to get in through a sliding glass door. They found crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia. Three men and a woman were arrested. Another drug bust and a murder occurred on Oak Street in the last three weeks.

Theatre North West Scoffs at Arts Funding Announcement
Just weeks after the resignation of the head of the BC Arts Council, Jane Danzo, the province is handing over what it calls an extra seven million dollars in funding. But officials with Theatre North West in Prince George say it's dollars that have already been announced. Back in March the government announced 10 million in funding for arts through the 2010 Sports and Arts Legacy program. It then implemented 3 million of that budget and Theatre North West officials say this is the remaining 7 million. All of this comes after the budget for the BC Arts Council was cut by 52 percent and the gaming grants were removed in the last year.

Aboriginal School Prepares to Open its Doors
Carney Hill will be starting up next week as British Columbia's first aboriginal school. The idea has been in the works for more than a decade. Ben Berland with the Aboriginal Board of Education says there is one major challenge. The school has been developed as a strategy to develop more successful education outcomes for aboriginal students who have low graduation levels traditionally. Berland says the eyes of the province and the nation will be watching to see how the school makes out.

The investigation of the operation there is continuing.
